Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health

The Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health (PANAFTOSA/VPH) is a specialized center of the ��/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) linked to the Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control, and Elimination Deparment (CDE).

PANAFTOSA is responsible for coordinating the Veterinary Public Health Program, providing technical cooperation in: prevention, surveillance, control and elimination of zoonoses; the promotion of initiatives to improve food safety systems and the eradication of foot-and-mouth disease, with the goal of promoting public health and regional socioeconomic development.

The Pan American Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health Center - PANAFTOSA supports the countries of the Region of the Americas and the Caribbean, with technical-scientific cooperation based on evidence.

It has been coordinating programs and supporting countries for almost seven decades to eradicate foot and mouth disease, address zoonotic diseases and address food safety in the region. Since its creation, the institution has worked through conventions and agreements with countries to guarantee public health and promote it as an engine of sustainable development.
